Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery was a senior British Army officer who served in the First World War, the Irish War of Independence, and the Second World War. For his wartime leadership and distinguished service, he was later created 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein and received numerous honours, including Knight of the Garter (KG), Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (GCB), and the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), and he also served as a Privy Counsellor (PC) and Deputy Lieutenant (DL).
