Hello I am looking for any info on the Gallacher family from Possilpark Glasow. David Gallacher, George Gallacher, James Gallacher, Frank Gallacher Isobella Cummings Gallacher. Thanks George Gallacher
I'm sure it's only a coincidence in names, but my GGGG grandfather, Dr. George Cumming, b. 1768, removed to County Down, Ireland abt 1792, removed to New York City 1802. His 2nd wife was Margaret Gallagher--md 1803. George's line came from Scotland and went to America, settling in South Carolina and George. George's reason for removing to County Down, NI, was to claim inherited land there. Oral family history states that this family owned land in Scotland, Ireland and England, as well as in America. George's children were born in County Down 1794-1802, Hance, Thomas, John Chambers, and prob. several daughters. The sons removed to New York also, then to Ontario, Canada. The given name 'Hance' had some significance in this family, for not only did George name a son 'Hance,' but all of George's sons, grandchildren and gr.grandchildren have named a son 'Hance,' which is a very unique name--in fact in 25 years of research, I've only found it in my known family, with one exception--the IGI for Scotland, lists a Hance Cumming, who in 1874, married Margaret McKenna in Lanarkshire. The follow-up censuses in Lanarkshire revealed an older Hance Cumming, b abt 1799 in Ireland. This family lived in the Calton area of Glasgow. Forgive the long explanation to link the Cumming-Gallager and Glasgow angle. There were a few more Gallager's in New York City (Manhattan) at the time George and Margaret (Gallager) lived there. Does it sound like there is any possibillity that this Gallager family of Glasgow could be connected? Regards, Carol
